Africa produced no qualifying new transaction at today’s cut, but the global market moved decisively. A strategic buyer added a specialist growth platform, a long-running bank privatisation reached a control agreement, and India’s largest proposed listing moved from ambition into a dated launch process.
Galderma agrees US$1.5 billion acquisition of ZO Skin Health
Galderma agreed to acquire California-based ZO Skin Health for an enterprise value of US$1.5 billion. ZO generated about US$330 million of net sales in the 12 months to June. The purchase adds a stronger medical-spa channel to Galderma’s dermatologist and plastic-surgeon reach. Closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027; the deal is agreed, not completed.
Fairfax agrees US$5.56 billion control purchase of IDBI Bank
Canada’s Fairfax Financial agreed to buy a combined 60.7% stake in IDBI Bank from India’s government and Life Insurance Corporation for ₹528.78 billion, or about US$5.56 billion. The sellers will retain 34%. The transaction is India’s largest cross-border bank deal and remains subject to Reserve Bank of India approval.
Jio files for an October launch of India’s largest IPO
Jio Platforms filed an updated prospectus setting 21 October as the launch date for a proposed IPO targeting a valuation of about ₹10.3 trillion, or US$108.25 billion. The filing is a concrete process step, not a completed offer, allocation or listing.
What the structure tells us
Today’s transactions are different forms of next-stage design. Galderma is buying capability and distribution, Fairfax is buying control of a repaired banking platform, and Jio is preparing to broaden ownership at unprecedented scale.
The African lesson is not to imitate the headline size. It is to be precise about the job capital must do: add capability, transfer control, create liquidity or prepare a company for a wider owner base. Once that job is clear, the structure becomes much easier to judge.
